Kokeshi have a simple carved trunk and an enlarged head with a few thin, painted lines to define the face. The body has their special hand-painted design, and then are covered with a layer of wax to keep them lasting for years. One of the most distinct aesthetics is the depiction of no arms but still having a sense of movement and expression having been carved from one solid piece of wood. They are approximately 5” in height and the male doll has a Shirokiya label marked EK232 -Made in Japan on the bottom The female doll wears a red and white floral kimono and the male doll wears a dark blue with brown hatched pattern and green and yellow obi.
